The Post
Written by Liz Hannah
Hannah does an incredible job of not only showing the action, but showing who is focusing on who, and who isn’t. There’s a sense of where characters thoughts are, and aren’t, relative to others in the room.
Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes On Television
Written by Rawson Marshall Thurber
Ooh! What is this asterisk on the title page?
Don’t be afraid to use the title page to set the tone.
It can be easy to over-index on this idea. (I’m personally not a fan of full-on posters as the title page.) But still, it’s a place to show your voice.
Tent City
Written by Gillian Fritzsche
I particularly like the last single word in SONNY’s intro paragraph. Forgettable.
But Sonny gets a name and SLICK SUIT does not. And we watch this all from Sonny’s perspective.
Fritzsche writes with such confidence here, and there’s no dissonance, despite her blatantly stating this man is forgettable. Is he really?
This script is one of many great scripts on The Grey List, which I encourage you to check out!
Two quotes about screenwriting
You can only generate ideas when you put pencil to paper, brush to canvas…when you actually do something physical.
- Twyla Tharp
I definitely like taking the dark horse approach and picking people you should not be getting behind, and you figure out a way to get behind them.
- Danny McBride
One thing to think about
How’s your today’s resolution?
Who cares about New Year’s? What’s your resolution today?
It doesn’t have to be January 1st for you to make a plan
There’s absolutely no reason you can’t make a new resolution or drop a useless one.
Any day is a good day to make a change, make a plan, commit.
How’s your today’s resolution?
